Robert Rexroat, LMFTA—I am a licensed marriage and family therapist associate. I graduated from Pepperdine University with a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 2024. I completed my internship at Living Success Center in Santa Ana, CA working with diverse populations and underserved individuals and couples. My clinical interest is working with adults struggling with anxiety, depression and grief and couples seeking help with communication challenges and attachment injury in their relationships.

In addition to adults and couples, I am interested in providing therapeutic support to medical providers. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in spiritual care at a children’s hospital in Orange County, CA providing emotional support to patients, parents, and medical staff in the NICU, CVICU, and PICU. This often involved working with critically ill patients and families, and palliative care patients near or at the end of life.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in the person. I recognize that each person, or couple, comes to therapy with a unique history informed by various experiences, which have shaped them in particular ways. In light of this, I approach therapy considering foremost what the person identifies as the problem for which they are seeking therapy. I work within a psychodynamic framework in order to explore with the client/couple relationship dynamics, behavior patterns, and internal thoughts. The aim of therapy is rooted in the shared cultivation of personal strength suited to face and address problems in a compassionate way, so that the possibility of a life worth living can be realized again, or for the first time. Ultimately, I believe the work of therapy turns on whether we, as therapist and client, can honestly consider and explore the possibility of who the client as person might become, without fully exhausting the mystery of who they are.
