Derek Easley, MSW, LCSW

Derek received his Masters Degree in social work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012. He completed his internship training at Duke Counseling and Psychological Services. Derek has been in private practice since 2012, and joined CSI at the end of 2015. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a member of Carolinas Group Psychotherapy Society. 

He enjoys working with teenagers, young adults, and life-long learners. Derek can help you with issues of self-esteem, identity, gender, spirituality, sexuality, racial and cultural identity, independence, or interdependence. Derek’s professional and clinical interests include: early adulthood and adolescence, nonviolent communication, group therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and mindfulness approaches to psychotherapy. He has a particular interest in ecumenical/religious/spiritual/ humanistic/existential approaches to self discovery and community building.

Derek’s theoretical orientation is relational psychodynamic therapy informed by mindfulness and process oriented group therapy. Derek endeavors to create a working relationship filled with warmth, humor, and respect. While he believes you can find immediate relief from some of your distress by using mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral techniques,  he has found long-term growth and change become a reality when you are able to make informed choices and discover greater authenticity in your daily life. He has experience working with groups and individuals with mood and anxiety difficulties, personality disorders, histories of violence or trauma, anger management difficulties, and providing counseling for those receiving medical treatment for psychosis and substance use disorders.

Derek can help with guiding you towards greater health and personal freedom, whether you are living with depression and anxiety, managing grief and loss, dissatisfied with your relationships, or feel like you need help during a difficult time in your life.
